Eating Disorders

It is estimated that seven million American girls have an eating disorder. One in 200 women have suffered from anorexia and two-three in 100 women have suffered from bulimia. While some people think girls suffer from eating disorders because they have low self-esteem, and their friends are doing it, the major cause of eating disorders is society.

Most people say that girls have eating disorders because they have low self-esteem and because their friends are doing it. Having low self-esteem can happen because of a lot of things. Every day, girls are being pressured about their weight and if they are "fat" or not. That's all you hear people talking about. A lot of girls will get made fun of at school for being over-weight or even being a little bit larger than everybody else. You always hear everyone talking about eat disorders, but if you're going to make of fun of someone how is that supposed to help? Exactly. Since your friends might be doing it, you will want to fit in and do it too. They also might be peer pressuring you. Not everyone can handle peer pressure and will give in very easily.

I on the other hand; believe the major reason of girls suffering from eating disorders is the impact of society. A lot of times celebrities have seen as skinny and always going on diets. Or even you have to be petite to become famous. Yes, there's a few that are not exactly petite but very few. Famous people are often role models of young girls and you can always hear little girls saying, "I want to be just like her." Now, when they grow up and they aren't exactly like that person, they are going to try everything to be like that role model. Also, in movies there is always a "popular" girl and always a "nerdy" girl. Which one is perfect, and which is one has a bunch of problems? The girl that is perfect is physically fit and just perfect. The one that might be a "nerd" is not so perfect. As a young girl you would probably rather be the perfect girl. If I were always watching movies with that kind of situation, I would want to be just like the girl everybody likes. Last, toys or dolls set a example for young girls. Barbie, for example is a role model for a large amount of girls. Dolls are definitely made to perfection. When you are young you're always around toys and dolls, which would make you think this is how everybody should be. Well, when they grow up it will be hard to accept the fact that nobody can be perfect. Society has a huge impact on young girls, everywhere.

As you can see, having an eating disorder can be because of a lot of reasons. Having a low self-esteem and because their friends are doing it are just minor reasons. Society has a big impact on young girls and can affect them in various different ways, including having an eating disorder.

Why is deforestation important to prevent?

Deforestation is important to prevent because we all need trees. Trees do help us with many different things in our lives. They give off oxygen for us. Trees are places for a lot of animals to live. Tropical rain forests give homes to 50%-90% of all organisms. Trees provide things as little as spices that we cook with to things as important as medicine we need to help the sick. Everybody already knows if we don't have any trees, we won't have paper, and now a days who doesn't use paper? Everybody uses it. If you didn't already know, trees trap carbon dioxide and other particles to help with pollution. That fact goes along with my last post about Global Warming. Also, trees are what cool and regulate the earths climate. Last, trees help prevent landslides and erosion. It helps with making the most fertile soil. So, you can say without trees we would have a lot of difficulties.

What actually is Global Warming?

There are a lot of different definitions of Global Warming. Everybody thinks of it differently, too. Some people may think it's just a theory, while others think of it as a proven set of facts. Global Warming is actually the temperature rising of the Earth. Even though over the last 100 years the Earths temperature has only risen one degree Celsius, to scientists this is a lot! Natural disasters like, storms, floods, and raging forest fires help this temperature rise. Global warming is not a good thing at all. Even though one degree is not actually rising a lot, but to the Earth, one degree has made the Earth warmer then it’s been in over a thousand years. But in the last eight years, those years have been recorded some of the hottest. Most discussion of Global Warming came up when people were talking about Ozone layer of the earth. So what actually is Global Warming? Global warming is the imbalance of nature. If would like to further study in to what Global warming really is, go here.

What is Christianity?

Intro
"All things must be fulfilled which are written in the law of Moses and in the prophets, and in the Psalms concerning me," said by Jesus in Luke 24:4. There are so many different religions that have come about in this world. All of them have differences and most of them
have similarities. I chose to write about Christianity because it has a lot of different beliefs and a lot of different people believe in this religion.
Founder and Followers
To being with, the founder of Christianity was Jesus of Nazareth. He founded this religion in A.D 33 in Palestine. Today Christianity has more then two billion followers. They are mainly in Europe, North America and South America. Christianity is the largest religion followed today. There are many different types of beliefs and practices, but they all sum up to Jesus Christ. Some of the different dominations are Baptist, Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Adventist and Eastern Orthodox, etc.
Sacred Texts
Secondly, the Christians read one main text, and that is known as the Bible. The Bible is made up of two different books or sections. These are called the Old Testament and the New Testament. The word testament means "covenant." The Old Testament is known as relevant. The Old Testament enforces diverse materials, teachings of wise men, instructions of priests and ancient records of royal courts. In the New Testament there are twenty-seven different books, or texts. These were written in Greek at first and is mainly a narration of the first century of Christianity. These books end with the book Revelation, where the immediate end of the world is predicted. Although, these two texts are both in the Bible, not everyone agrees on what is told in the Old Testament, to what is told in the New Testament.
Religious Holidays
Also, there are many religious holidays that the Christians follow. For example, some popular holidays are Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Palm Sunday, St. Patrick's Day, Twelfth Night, Advent, and Ash Wednesday. Christians celebrate Easter, because it is considered as the resurrection of Christ. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Palm sunday is the sixth day of lent, and on every Sunday in the Christian Religion it's known as the "Lord Day." On these Sundays you would go to Church and listen to your priest. Last, Advent is the beginning of the Church year and Lent is a forty day period of fasting. Every religion has different holidays, and they celebrate them all in different ways.
Rituals and Customs
Next, Christians just have a few rituals and customs they have to follow. Every Sunday they attend a worship service with a crowd of people. Also, when you are a Christian they recommend that you get Baptized when you are born or at anytime you can. When you are Baptized they either make you kneel, stand or sit in water, or they could just pour the water on your forehead. The Christians believe that when you are Baptized Jesus Christ provides the forgiveness of all your sins, and the gift of the Holy Spirit. No, they do not believe that by being Baptized you automatically go to Heaven, but they do believe that it will help you. Sacramentals are also a custom of this religion. Sacramentals are believed that they help you grow in faith and in turn increase our faith for the sacraments. Just like holidays, every religions have different rituals and customs.
Particular Dress and Christian Hierarchy
Last, in the Christian faith you don't have an actual "dress code." Your priest on Sundays will probably be wearing a long robe, over a black suit with a white collar. When you go to Church you should dress as best as you can. In different Religions they have a Hierarchy. For example in Christianity the Catholic Hierarchy is the Pope at the top, then the Cardinals, Bishops, Priests and last is the Deacon. Every single religion has a different Hierarchy, or at least most of it is different.

As you can see, Christianity is a very wide-world known religion and has a lot of interesting parts to it. Christianity has been around for quite awhile and most likely will be for a long time. If you would like to learn even more about Christianity you can click here.
